Similar legislation

[edit]

This is a great article. The only thing that I would suggest would be to maybe mention other similar types of legislation, especially any future or past legislation geared towards similar goals.--Andy Jain 01:39, 14 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I agree, this article is very thorough and very comprehensive. Two quick things though: you could perhaps use a few more dates, i.e. what year were Marcus Jinius Brutus and Cato the tribunes of the plebs, etc. Also, do you have a primary source? It might be useful to cite the actual writings of Cato on his support for Lex Oppia. That shouldn't be too hard to find. Other than that, great articile! ~Scott Hanna

You took your comments very well and improved an already very solid and comprehensive article. The only thing that could improve it is some direct citation of primary sources. Well done.

Gaius Oppius link links to wrong Gaius Oppius. The Gaius Oppius who instituted this law in 215 BCE could not have been an intimate friend of Julius Caesar (100-44 BCE). — Preceding unsigned comment added by 130.102.158.15 (talk) 02:34, 27 August 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Gaius oppius.

[edit]

I strongly feel that the "Gaius oppius linked in the article is not the author of the "Lex oppia". the law was constituted in 215BC while the "Oppius" lived during the lifetime of Julius Caesar the dictator who died in 44BC..within the 1st sentuary. I think you´re right. It is impossible that the Gaius Oppius that was friend of Julius Caesar was a tribune of the plebe in 295bc as Caesar was born in 100 BC. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 200.68.95.97 (talk) 16:33, 7 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]
